Finding the right study spot can totally change how productive you are. Sometimes campus is just too crowded or you need a change of pace, and luckily, there are plenty of great places right around SMU to hunker down with your laptop or a stack of notes. Here are a few of my go-to recommendations.
Foxtrot isn’t just a market; it’s a popular hangout for SMU students. You can grab coffee, pick up a snack, and set up at one of the tables for a couple of hours. It has a relaxed vibe with just enough background noise to keep you focused without feeling too quiet. Check out their locations.
This Starbucks is basically an SMU landmark. It’s always packed with students, which makes it a fun place if you want a more social study environment or need to meet up with a group. The location couldn’t be more convenient, and with plenty of tables and Wi-Fi, it’s an easy spot to squeeze in some work between classes.
White Rock Coffee’s University Park location is a hidden gem. It’s quieter than the big-name coffee shops and has a cozy, laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to stay for hours. Plus, the coffee is strong, which is exactly what you need for long study sessions. Click here to learn more about White Rock Coffee.
If you’re in the mood for something a little more upscale, Sadelle’s in Highland Park Village is a great option. It’s bright, chic, and has plenty of space to get work done while you enjoy a coffee or one of their famous bagels. It doesn’t feel like your typical study spot, which can be a nice change when you need a reset.
La La Land has such a cheerful vibe; bright decor, good music, and plenty of seating. It’s one of those spots where you feel comfortable settling in for a while. The mission of kindness behind the cafe also adds to the atmosphere, making it an uplifting place to work.
On a nice day, it’s hard to beat studying outside. Parks like the one on McFarlin Blvd or Centennial are just around the corner from campus and perfect for spreading out a blanket, bringing your laptop, or just reading under a tree. It’s a refreshing way to study while still feeling close to campus.
When you need serious focus, Highland Park Library is the way to go. It’s quiet, calm, and free of distractions, which makes it perfect for paper writing or catching up on heavy reading. It’s close enough to campus to be convenient but feels like a little escape.
Whether you’re fueled by coffee, sunshine, or the calm of a library, there’s no shortage of study spots near SMU. Switching between places like Foxtrot, White Rock Coffee, or Highland Park Library can keep studying from feeling stale and help you find the environment that works best for you.
