Easter weekend in college can look very different for a variety of students, both at SMU and at other colleges. It solely depends on family dynamics, religious beliefs, and personal preferences during the school year. Around this time in the semester, students are extremely academically busy, some choosing to stay back in their college town to catch up on work, see friends, and maybe get some sleep, too!
For some, they’ll choose to stay in Dallas. When we asked what some students were planning to do if they were staying in Dallas, they told us they’d attend Easter Sunday services and grab brunch with friends.

If you’re looking to attend an Easter service here in Dallas, Highland Park Methodist, located on SMU’s campus, has several services. And afterward, might we suggest grabbing brunch in Highland Park Village? We’ve listed the service schedule and HPV restaurants below:

And if you’re not a student looking to catch up on sleep, studying, or attending a Dallas service, you’re probably going home to visit family. And like any holiday, a family reunion looks different for everyone. Some may go back to their hometown, visit a vacation home, or choose to go to an entirely different location. When we asked some students, here’s what they said:
“My family goes to the beach every year for Easter. We started doing it during COVID-19 to get out of the house, and it ended up sticking! Ever since then, it’s been a good chance to enjoy the warm weather and family time… We even get to attend a church service at sunrise on the beach!”
“I’m actually going to Austin this year for Easter. My family works in the baseball industry, and my sister has to go to a game, so I decided to join her! After that, I’m coming back to Dallas to spend Easter Sunday with extended family which will be fun!”
“We visit Manhattan Beach every year for Easter. The pollen count in Atlanta is absolutely horrible these days, and my dad is deathly allergic, so instead of us spending all our time indoors at home, we travel to California, so we can enjoy the beautiful weather. My sister also lives out there, so it works out well!”
So, as you can see, everyone’s Easter plans are very, very different but unique to their personal lives and what they want to do. Whether you’re staying in Dallas, visiting family and friends, or going home to catch up on some much-needed sleep, Easter weekend is the perfect time for all. Hoping everyone has a restful and enjoyable Easter weekend!
