The members of the SMU Police Department (SMUPD) are dedicated to providing a secure educational environment through enforcement of the law, respect for human rights, and protection of the SMU community. They are currently seeking a Community Engagement and Communications intern to bolster their social media presence.
Job description
The intern will support the SMU Police Department’s Community Engagement and Crime Prevention Programs by use of social media, communications and outreach. This position requires knowledge of current social media trends, platforms, devices and techniques.
This position supports crime prevention efforts by promoting community education and awareness, and works closely with the SMU Aware program.
Requirements
- Must be of junior or senior standing
- Must be able to receive class credit for internship
- Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, but we will work around your schedule
- Must be able to work some evening and weekend hours to cover events
- Must be organized, enthusiastic and a team player
- Must stay informed about the media and current events
- Must have strong communication skills
- Must have strong writing skills
- Must have a strong knowledge of social media, including TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of effective communications strategies using social media and digital platforms
This position reports to the Assistant to the Chief of Police.
