Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) is a global public health organization with a mission to prevent 100 million deaths from heart disease and to make the world safer from epidemics. They are led by Dr Tom Frieden, former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since 2017, Resolve to Save Lives has partnered with low- and middle-income country governments, multi-lateral agencies, academic and other civil society partners, and communities to build capacity for and support implementation of enabling policies and effective programs to treat and control hypertension, reduce sodium intake, eliminate artificial trans fat, and strengthen systems for epidemic prevention.
Job Description:
Resolve to Save Lives seeks qualified candidates for the position of Media Officer to support our work creating effective and compelling public health communications. Reporting to the Senior Media Strategist, the Media Officer is responsible for developing and executing media plans that highlight the work of our Cardiovascular Health and Prevent Epidemics teams, while supporting RTSL in a variety of activities that improve our work and impact.
The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced and collaborative environment. You’re a creative thinker with media relations experience and you have a track record of supporting strategic communications efforts that aid launching reports, projects, or initiatives. You are a superb writer and have experience pitching stories and evaluating communications opportunities. Importantly, you’re interested in learning more about a wide range of communications and passionate about our mission.
This full-time position is remote. The incumbent will be expected to convene periodically for in-person team meetings and to work during East Coast core working hours. The salary range for this role in the US is $68,000 to $76,000.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Partner closely with our program teams to best execute RTSL communication strategies, develop fresh story ideas and media strategies, and evaluate their impact
- Write and support development of various content, including press releases, opeds, talking points, speeches, social media posts and other material that highlights Resolve to Save Lives’ programmatic work
- Serve as primary point of contact and project manager for external media agencies and other outsourced media support services
- Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a media liaison for the organization
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, social media influencers and support in maintaining the media & influencer database
- Support and evaluate opportunities to enhance the reputation of the brand, and coordinate publicity events as required
- Lead development of coverage reports, and support tracking media mentions
- Support development of social media content for individual programs (in partnership with Social Media Officer)
- Assist with digital content strategy through development of editorial calendar and social listening and support by remixing content into threads or social posts
Required Experience and Skills:
- At least five years of work experience in the communications, public relations and/or media fields
- Exceptional writing skills across a variety of formats
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent project management skills; able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities and meet deadlines
- Able to work independently with a high degree of initiative, organization and attention to details
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, creative writing or similar
- Experience in the global public health field, including ideally in LMICs is a plus
- French and/or Spanish fluency is a plus
