Calling all Houstonians! The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Houston Chapter has a student scholarship in memory of Downs Matthews, an IABC Houston pioneer, to foster the communication profession.
Since 1970, IABC Houston has offered professional development meetings and workshops, networking opportunities, student competitions, awards and recognition programs for best practices. IABC Houston members include public relations and communication professionals from Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, communications agencies, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and freelance writers and consultants. All have a commitment to continue professional development and a desire to network with other communicators. IABC Houston also sponsors an active student chapter at the University of Houston Jack J. Valenti School of Communication.
The scholarship is for undergraduate and graduate student applicants majoring in communications or a related field, and either attending a Houston-area institution or hail from the Houston area. Scholarship assistance is based upon academic performance, leadership potential, and financial need.
The Downs Matthews Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award of $2,500. IABC Houston pays scholarship funds directly to the student. Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.
You can find more information about the scholarship and the application here.
