Things to Do During the Texas Ice Storm

By Isabella Grover

Meteorologists across the United States are predicting one of the worst snowstorms in years to hit the country this weekend. The path stretches across Texas and extends into the northeastern states. Dallas is predicting extreme cold weather, ice, and snow starting tonight, Friday. Officials are recommending that Texans stay indoors this weekend to avoid dangerous roads. To stray from boredom, here are 3 things to do during the Texas ice storm.

1. Movie Marathon

One way to stay warm during the Texas ice storm is to host a movie marathon. Grab a bundle of blankets, warm up the leftover holiday hot chocolate, and pick out a handful of movies to watch. This is a perfect time to catch up on the movies you’ve always wanted to watch, but never had the time. Additionally, the Academy announced the 2026 Oscars nominations to give cold Texans a plethora of recent movies to watch this weekend during the ice storm.

2. Try a New Recipe

Fill the house with a good-smelling recipe this weekend to expand your culinary skills during the ice storm. Warm up with the family’s chili recipe or find your new go-to way to make chocolate chip cookies. If you didn’t make it to the store in time to gather ingredients, don’t fret! Check out MyFridgeFood. The website allows you to find recipes with ingredients you already have in your fridge.

3. Create a Craft

Get in touch with your creative side during the ice storm this weekend. Put on your favorite music playlist and start (or continue) a new, simple craft. Finish that embroidery design or crochet your blanket to keep your mind off the cold. However, don’t let the prospect of starting a big project intimidate you! Small crafts like making friendship bracelets/jewelry, coloring a color book, or water color painting can feel just as rewarding and fun. For an extensive list of crafts, visit Mod Podge Rocks blog.

Although Texans can’t prevent the ice storm from hitting Dallas this weekend, they can prepare themselves with things to do! Enjoy the weekend indoors and try to keep warm!
